King Solomon was building the magnificent temple in Jerusalem, around 960 BC, following detailed plans his father David had received from God. These cherubim were enormous golden statues placed in the Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies), the innermost sanctuary where God's presence would dwell. Twenty cubits equals about 30 feet across, showing the incredible scale and grandeur of this temple.
