Ahaz ruled the southern kingdom of Judah from approximately 735-715 BC during a time of great political turmoil and military threats from Assyria and neighboring nations. Unlike his godly ancestor David, Ahaz would become known for his idolatry and unfaithfulness to God. The chronicler often measured kings against David's standard of faithfulness to establish whether they were good or evil rulers.
