So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
Uzziah was a powerful king of Judah who ruled successfully for many years, expanding his kingdom through military victories and wise administration, but his pride led him to overstep his authority by entering the temple to burn incense, a role reserved for priests. As a result, God struck him with leprosy as a judgment, forcing him to live in isolation for the rest of his life. When he died, his burial was in a field near the kings' tombs but not among them, reflecting the cultural stigma of his disease, and his son Jotham succeeded him as king.
