And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
During the reign of King Joash in Judah, the temple in Jerusalem had fallen into disrepair after years of neglect, prompting Joash, with the guidance of the priest Jehoiada, to initiate a collection of funds for its restoration. This collection was based on the ancient command given by Moses in the wilderness, as described in Exodus, where the Israelites were instructed to contribute a tax for the tabernacle and its services. The proclamation in 2 Chronicles 24:9 was a call to the people of Judah and Jerusalem to fulfill this obligation, reflecting the ongoing importance of temple worship in Israelite society.
