Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
In the biblical narrative of 2 Chronicles, King Joash of Judah was protected and raised by the high priest Jehoiada, who saved him from his grandmother Athaliah's murderous plot and helped him ascend to the throne as a young boy. Despite Jehoiada's lifelong loyalty and guidance, Joash later turned away from God, influenced by evil counselors, and ordered the stoning of Jehoiada's son Zechariah for prophesying against his sins. As Zechariah died, he invoked God's judgment on Joash, highlighting the theme of divine accountability for betrayal.
