Asa was the third king of Judah (the southern kingdom) and ruled for 41 years around 911-870 BC. He came to power during a time when the kingdom was divided into Israel (north) and Judah (south), and many kings had turned away from worshiping the true God. Asa was one of the few kings who consistently sought to follow God's ways and remove idol worship from his kingdom.
