This takes place after a prophet from Judah confronted King Jeroboam at the altar in Bethel, prophesying against the false worship system Jeroboam had established. When the king tried to arrest the prophet, his hand withered, but was healed when the prophet prayed for him. Now Jeroboam is trying to show gratitude and hospitality to the man who both rebuked him and then healed him.
