(But he shall have one tribe for my servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:)
In the biblical narrative of 1 Kings, King Solomon had turned away from God by worshiping idols, which led to God's decision to divide the kingdom of Israel and give most of it to Jeroboam as punishment. However, God promised to leave one tribe to Solomon's son Rehoboam out of His enduring loyalty to David, Solomon's father and a faithful servant, and to preserve Jerusalem as the chosen city among all the tribes of Israel. This reflects God's mercy in maintaining His covenant despite human failure.
