This verse comes from the account of Solomon's coronation as king of Israel. King David was very old and near death when a succession crisis arose with his son Adonijah trying to claim the throne. David had promised that Solomon would be his successor, and when he heard that Solomon had been successfully crowned king, he offered this prayer of thanksgiving from his deathbed.
