Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
This is Solomon's famous request when God appeared to him in a dream at Gibeon early in his reign. Solomon had just become king of Israel after his father David's death, and he felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of leading God's chosen people. God was so pleased with this humble request for wisdom rather than wealth or power that He granted Solomon legendary wisdom along with riches and honor.
