This occurs during the prophet Elijah's ministry in the northern kingdom of Israel, around 870 BC, during the reign of the wicked King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Elijah had just been miraculously fed by ravens at the brook Cherith during a severe drought that God had sent as judgment. Now God is preparing to give Elijah new directions as his current provision is about to end.
