This verse comes from when David was hiding in the wilderness of Ziph while fleeing from King Saul. The Ziphites, who were from Saul's own tribe of Benjamin, came to Saul and offered to betray David's location to the king. They were essentially volunteering to help Saul hunt down David, who was already anointed as the future king but was living as a fugitive.
