Omri was a king of the northern kingdom of Israel who ruled from about 885-874 BC. He came to power during a period of civil war and political instability after several short-lived kings. Despite being politically successful and founding the dynasty that included his son Ahab, Omri continued the pattern of idol worship and rejection of God that characterized the northern kingdom.
