In the biblical narrative, Jeroboam was the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel after the kingdom divided from Judah following Solomon's death. When Jeroboam's son became ill, he sent his wife in disguise to the prophet Ahijah, who foretold that the child would die as soon as she returned home, fulfilling God's word.
