During the reign of King Jeroboam in the divided kingdom of Israel, his son fell seriously ill, prompting Jeroboam to send his wife disguised to the prophet Ahijah in Shiloh for guidance. Ahijah, who had previously prophesied Jeroboam's rise to power, delivered a message of judgment from God, declaring that the child would die as a consequence of Jeroboam's idolatry and sins upon the wife's return home.
