In the period after King Solomon's death, the kingdom of Israel split into two: Judah in the south and Israel in the north, ruled by Jeroboam. Jeroboam led his people into idolatry by setting up golden calves as objects of worship, which directly defied God's commands and provoked His judgment. As a result, God sent a prophet to declare this curse on Jeroboam's family as a sign of divine retribution for his sins.
