Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
Now listen, Israel, to the laws and rules that I'm teaching you. Follow them so that you may live and go in to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, is giving you.
Moses is telling the Israelites to listen carefully and obey God's laws so they can live well and inherit the promised land.
📚 Historical Context
Moses is speaking to the Israelites as they stand on the edge of the Promised Land after 40 years in the wilderness. This is part of his final speeches before his death, reminding them of God's laws before they enter Canaan. The 'land of your fathers' refers to the promise God made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob centuries earlier.
