If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
If you carefully obey all these commands that I'm giving you today, to love the LORD your God and always follow his ways, then you should set aside three more cities in addition to these three.
God is telling the Israelites that if they faithfully obey his commands and love him wholeheartedly, they should establish three additional cities of refuge.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is delivering God's laws to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land, emphasizing the importance of justice and mercy in their society. This verse is part of instructions about establishing cities of refuge, which were designated safe places for individuals who accidentally caused someone's death, protecting them from revenge. The condition of adding more cities upon obedience highlights the covenant relationship, where faithfulness to God's commands would lead to territorial expansion and greater stability.
