KJV ORIGINAL
And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

✦ MADE SIMPLE

That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt and rescued you from slavery. He tried to push you off the path that the LORD your God commanded you to walk on. You must remove this evil from among your people.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

God is commanding that false prophets who lead people away from Him must face the death penalty to protect the community from spiritual corruption.

📚 Historical Context

In the ancient setting of the Israelites' journey from Egypt, God was giving laws through Moses to protect the nation from idolatry and maintain their covenant relationship with Him. This verse specifically warns against false prophets who might use dreams or prophecies to lead people away from God's commands, as the Israelites were vulnerable to surrounding pagan influences in the Promised Land. Such strict measures ensured the community's spiritual purity and loyalty to the God who had delivered them from slavery.
