Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
While he was talking to me, I completely passed out face-first on the ground. But then he touched me and helped me stand back up.
Sometimes God's presence is so overwhelming we can't handle it, but he always helps us back to our feet.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Daniel, the prophet is living in exile in Babylon during the 6th century BC, receiving divine visions that reveal God's plans for future empires. During the vision in chapter 8, an angel is explaining the symbolic meaning of animals like a ram and a goat, which represent historical kingdoms, when Daniel becomes overwhelmed and falls into a deep sleep. The angel's touch to set him upright highlights God's intervention in moments of human frailty amid these revelations.
