📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Daniel, this verse occurs during a lavish feast hosted by King Belshazzar of Babylon, where a mysterious handwriting on the wall appeared, signaling the imminent fall of his empire. Daniel, a Jewish exile and prophet, had just interpreted the writing as a divine judgment against Belshazzar for his pride and idolatry. As a reward for Daniel's insight, the king temporarily elevated him to a high position, though this honor came just before the Persian conquest ended Babylonian rule.
