And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
And the LORD said, 'I will also remove Judah from my presence, just as I removed Israel, and I will reject this city Jerusalem that I chose, and the temple where I said my name would dwell.'
God is declaring that He will remove Judah and Jerusalem from His favor, just as He had already done with the northern kingdom of Israel.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes during the reign of King Josiah's successors, after Josiah's religious reforms had ended. Despite Josiah's efforts to restore proper worship, the people of Judah continued in their idolatry and rebellion against God. The northern kingdom of Israel had already been conquered and exiled by Assyria in 722 BC due to their unfaithfulness.
