Made Simple — Modern English Translation

Translated by Verse Made Simple Editorial
KJV ORIGINAL
And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.

✦ MADE SIMPLE

They confronted King Uzziah and said to him, 'It's not your place, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD. Only the priests who are descendants of Aaron are set apart for this sacred duty. Leave the sanctuary immediately, because you have overstepped your boundaries. This will not bring you honor from the LORD God.'

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

The priests boldly confronted King Uzziah, telling him he had no right to perform their sacred duties and that his actions dishonored God.

📚 Historical Context

This confrontation occurred when King Uzziah of Judah tried to burn incense in the temple, a duty reserved exclusively for the Aaronic priests. Uzziah had become proud after years of military and economic success, leading him to overstep his royal authority into religious matters. The separation between royal and priestly duties was fundamental to Israel's covenant structure.
