And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
The LORD called out to Samuel again. Samuel got up and went to Eli, saying, 'Here I am, because you called me.' But Eli answered, 'I didn't call you, my son. Go back and lie down.'
God is persistently calling young Samuel, but Samuel doesn't yet recognize God's voice and keeps thinking it's his mentor Eli calling him.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Samuel was a young boy dedicated to serve in the temple under the care of Eli, the high priest, during a time when direct communication from God was uncommon. At this point, Samuel had not yet recognized God's voice, mistaking it for Eli's call due to his inexperience. This event is part of the larger story of Samuel's calling as a prophet in Israel.
