So the LORD said to Solomon, 'Since you have done this and have not kept my agreement and my laws that I commanded you to follow, I will definitely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.'

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

God is telling Solomon that because he broke God's covenant, the kingdom will be taken from him and given to someone else.

📚 Historical Context

In the biblical narrative of 1 Kings, King Solomon had been blessed with wisdom and wealth, leading Israel to a period of great prosperity, but his later years were marred by his marriage to many foreign women who influenced him to worship their idols, directly violating God's commands. This disobedience broke the covenant God had made with David and Solomon, leading to divine judgment as God decided to divide the kingdom. The historical context reflects the cultural practices of ancient Near Eastern alliances through marriage, which often introduced idolatry and compromised Israel's faithfulness to Yahweh.
